What're some songs you know that sound as if they're actually *two* songs stitched together? It'll be in a groove for like, half the song, & then suddenly, outta nowhere, it sounds almost like a totally different song! .....but it still works! I'm *Not* talking about breakdowns though. Those are common. Couple of examples offhand are Led Zeppelin's "The Ocean". Goes from headbanging hard rock, then outta nowhere, the finale suddenly speeds up & turns into a swing groove w/ Plant's multi-layered "doo wop" vocals. (kicks in at 3:18) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGSXM8yTbEA or Paul McCartney's "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey", when it goes from soft & gentle to faster & whimsical. (I think this song *was* originally 2 different songs. The Beatles did a few of these too) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsWufNDJl4M (change comes at 2:16) He did it on "Band on the Run" too. Went from slow & introspective to urgent /desperate & then finally to larger-than-life & upbeat for the 3rd section. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqMpw9gdcTM Others? Stone & Sal - great examples! kyle- Yknow- dammit. I was actually really digging that song. Esp. the melodic opening....then the vocals kicked in. Wish they'd sung it (or even yelled it) straight. Then I think I would've Loved it. But the growling..... Anyway, you were right about the musical changes though. :) charlie- good one w/ "Layla" & Necromancer. VT- Now as a Rush fan of the Highest Order, you oughta know that Natural Science *is* actually a collection of unfinished ideas they had for a different song. :) But yup, it Def' counts! kyle- lol- maybe I can still be saved. Know any other bands who play melodically complicated riffs like that.....minus the growling? :) Rollover- I gotta ask...where in the song does the radical change in sound come in? Hedz- Yeah, All of those totally count. Good examples there too.... Read More »
